When I was a little boy our next-door neighbor, and close family friend, decided that as each of the Crossett Kids grew-up and were married, he would build us a blanket chest. So far he has build one Janus, Chris, and me. As he prepared to start Megan's chest, we decided to work together on the project so that I could learn some of his woodworking tricks. So we began the project!

We started by choosing some birds-eye maple that Chase had bought from Tuck-away timber more than 20+ years ago. The birds-eye would be used use for the raised panels. We then choose some cherry for the rest of the chest.

The cherry and birds-eye were planed to 3/4" and then cut to size.

With a table mounted router we cut beveled edges on all four sides of the five birds-eye panels.
